The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent Act of 2018 (P. L. 115-237), or POWER Act, was passed by Congress on September 4, 2018. The POWER Act promotes efforts across the country to empower survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking through pro bono legal services.
This year's POWER Act virtual event will take place on May 20, 2026, at 4:00 pm ET. The program will focus upon how attorneys entering pro bono work can support domestic violence victims and survivors within sovereign Tribal Nations. It will also examine the impact of domestic violence in Indigenous communities and touch upon key statistics, warning signs, common obstacles to seeking help, and available resources for victims and their dependents.
This virtual event is hosted by the Northern and Southern Districts of New York and co-sponsored by the District of Colorado. 1 General and 1 EDI Colorado CLE Credit have been approved for this offering. Registration closes on May 15, 2026. Registration and additional information can be accessed on the Northern District of New York's website HERE.
The following CLE materials from past POWER Act presentations are provided for pro bono lawyers interested in various opportunities available for volunteer work, applicable ethics rules, and information about participating non-profit agencies.
